You may have received a notice alerting you of Duke’s application with PUCO to increase electric distribution rates.
First off, if you have an electric aggregation program, this will have no impact on the aggregation rates. The aggregation deals with the generation/supply side of the bill where these proposed increased are on the distribution side of the bill.
If approved, these new distribution rates would impact all Duke electric customers—including residential, commercial, and municipal accounts—beginning in 2027.
Duke provided additional pages in the PUCO filing that break down the estimated impact on bills and I’ve included that in a separate document “Duke_Bill_Change_Summary”. Let’s focus on a residential account and I’m going to use “Line No. 6” on Page 2 as a reference.
Based on that line, for a residential customer that uses 1,000 kWh in a month, they would see a bill increase of $8.32 per month. This would total just shy of $100 annually. Because these charges are on the distribution portion of the bill, there is nothing we can do to “shop” for them as we do with the generation/supply cost. Any changes would be passed on to all customer regardless of “shopping” status.
We’ll keep you informed as we learn more about this proposed rate increase.
