Vacation Checks and Tips
Whether you are going out for the evening or on vacation, take the appropriate steps to keep your home and
property safe while you are away.
Crime is a "period of opportunity". If a criminal can capitalize on this opportunity, he is more
likely to succeed in his efforts to make you another one of his victims. By reducing the opportunity for success, you make it less
appealing for the criminal to act.
Some of the precautions you can take are as follows:
1- When you plan to go out, leave one or more
lights on in your house.
2 - Leave a stereo playing.
3 - Use a timer for long absences.
4 - Do not leave keys hidden around your house.
Hiding spots around your house are the first place a criminal looks.
5 - Discontinue your mail and newspaper.
6 - Have your grass
mowed if you plan on an extended vacation.
7 - Have a family member or trusted neighbor watch your house.
Give them a key so they
may open the house if the need arises.
8 - Make sure you leave a number where a family member or trusted neighbor may contact you.
Remember, you are the first line of defense in keeping your home from becoming a statistic of crime.
While you are away on vacation,
the Fairfield Township Police Department is happy to check your home. You may call the police department during normal office hours,
Monday through Friday, 8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. to schedule your Vacation House Check or you may fill out the Vacation House Check form.
You may drop off this form at the police department at 6485 Vonnie Vale Court.
