1. Fairfield Township has 75 road miles to maintain. In addition to the road miles, the
Road Department must make certain that our public safety personnel can respond.
The department is responsible for clearing two (2) Township Fire Stations, the
Township Police Department, and the Township Administration Building.

2. The roads within the Township are prioritized and treated and plowed in a
hierarchical fashion. That order is: (1) Primary Township roads (2) Secondary
Township roads (3) Township subdivision roads (4) Cul de sacs.

3. Snow removal equipment that is able to maneuver easily is used to plow cul de
sacs. Currently, the Township has a contact list of an additional 5 to 6 independent
contractors who are called to plow cul de sacs with their equipment.

4. The Road Department generally begins treating the roads with either salt or
calcium chloride. This process takes about four (4) hours to complete and
approximately two (2) loads of salt.

5. If the snow continues to accumulate, the Road Department plows in the same
hierarchical order as described above. One route takes approximately seven (7)
hours to complete. Heavier snow or longer periods of snow can increase the time
our department needs to clear the roads.

6. Plowing requests are not taken since all routes are systematically cleared.
Occasionally a delay in service can occur. If you think your street was missed, call
the Township Administration Building at 887-4400. All calls are important to us.
7. DO NOT allow unsupervised children to play outside when snow plows are
operating.

8. Leave at least two (2) feet of your driveway un-shoveled until we have completed
curb to curb snow removal. Leaving at least two feet un-shoveled prevents our
plows from plowing this area back in again.

9. If you must shovel the end of your driveway prior to our plowing completion, place
the snow to the right of your driveway (with your back facing your house). If the
snow is placed in this area, the amount of snow plowed back into your driveway is
lessened.

10. Please remember that proper plowing operations CANNOT prevent the
redeposit of snow in driveway areas. Avoid having to plow your driveway entrance
twice by waiting until the snow plow truck is finished. The plow truck normally
makes two trips to plow the snow to the curb.

11. Township property owners shall not allow obstructions, such as portable
basketball backboards, project into any road or street.

12. Township property owners who contract for their own snow removal must
remind their contractors that snow or ice thrown into the street is not permitted.

13. Township property owners residing on a cul de sac need to remember these
areas are particularly difficult to plow. Our Road Department personnel place the
accumulated snow in what we determine are the most practical areas.

14. Please move all vehicles off the streets or cul de sacs during any major snow
storm.

15. Fairfield Township is not responsible for snow accumulated around the
property owners’ mailboxes. Homeowners must remove the snow accumulated
around their mailbox. The post office WILL NOT deliver your mail if they cannot
access your mailbox.

16. Please place your garbage cans on your property and NOT in or on the street.
Objects in the street are the biggest deterrent to efficient plowing operations.

17. Never pass a snowplow or salt truck.

18. Never assume our snowplow drivers can see you. Stay at least three (3) car
lengths or 25 feet behind the truck.

19. If you use a snow blower to clear your driveway, do not blow the snow into
the street.

20. REMEMBER……There are times when a snow plow operator cannot complete his
route. The plow may be pulled to help another plow that is stuck. The plow may be
pulled to clear for emergency vehicles. Snow plow blades can get damaged. The
snow plows may need mechanical repair.

On behalf of the entire Fairfield Township Board of Trustees, Fiscal Officer and Staff, we wish you happy holidays.

With the holidays fast approaching Fairfield Township continues to make great strides in the most important transportation project of the region, the By –Pass 4 widening. The township has teamed with Butler County and the Butler County Transportation Improvement District and the City of Hamilton to fund an unprecedented project that will soon widen the by-pass from the southern terminus to the 129 bridge overpass. The local section of the project will begin in summer of 2010 with the widening of the by-pass from Tylersville to the bridge and intersection improvements at Tylersville and Hamilton Mason intersections. Phillips-Edison is now the new owners of Bridgewater Falls and we look forward to exciting announcements concerning new stores and restaurants in the very near future. With the holidays upon us expect traffic to be heavier than usual and please patronize all of our fine local businesses for your shopping convenience. Once again, happy holidays and please feel free to contact our Administrator, Michael Rahall, at 887-4400 should you have any questions, concerns, comments, suggestions about any issues that concern the Township.

With the busiest shopping time of the year upon us, the Police Department will be out in full force; and so will the criminals. Thefts from vehicles are frequent, but you need to be alert while shopping and walking to and from your car. The following are some safety tips to help make your shopping experience a safe one.

- Try to shop during the day, and it’s a good practice to have someone else with you.
- When getting in and out of your vehicle, be aware of vehicles near you and parked directly next to you.
- Park in a well lit area when possible.
- Keep your windows rolled up and car doors locked.
- Always keep valuables out of sight and locked in the trunk.
- Keep your cell phone handy and charged.
- Do not leave your shopping cart or purchased items unattended.
- Keep an eye on your purse/wallet at all times. Do not leave them in a cart or unattended at any time, not even on the counter while you pay for purchases.
- Be aware of a person that may be looking over your shoulder while making a transaction with a credit card.
- When leaving the store, make sure you have all your bags as well as your purse and/or wallet.
