D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education)
The Fairfield Township Police Department's D.A.R.E program is a
collaborative effort between the police, your school, parents, and
community leaders.

D.A.R.E. works because it surrounds children and teens with support
and encouragement from all of these groups.

D.A.R.E. teaches kids how to recognize and resist the direct and subtle
pressures that influence them to experiment with alcohol, tobacco,
marijuana, and other drugs. We must reach our children before it is too
late.

The Fairfield Township Police Department has specially trained officers
for the D.A.R.E. program.

Sergeant Vernon Shobe, who is the primary D.A.R.E. instructor is
available to visit your school and teach the D.A.R.E. program. Sergeant
Shobe is currently teaching the curriculum to the children at Fairfield
North Elementary and Fairfield East Elementary schools.

The D.A.R.E. curriculum includes the following:
Kindergarten through 2nd grade:
Being Safe
Drug Safety
Learning to say "NO"
About Feelings

3rd and 4th grades:
Rules to Keep Safe
Drugs May Help or Harm
Saying "NO" to Drug Offers
Feeling Special
DARE to say "NO"

School Resource Officer
The School Resource Officer for the Fairfield Township Police Department fulfills three roles using a triad approach. The School Resource Officer (SRO) acts as a law enforcement officer, a law-related counselor, and a law-related presenter.

As a law enforcement officer, the SRO's primary purpose is to keep the peace. As a law-related counselor, the officer provides resource guidance to students, parents, teachers, and staff. As a law-related presenter, the officer shares special law enforcement expertise by giving presentations in the classroom to promote a better understanding of our laws.

Though Fairfield Township Police Department uses the SRO program as an on call basis, the concept is the placement of an experienced law enforcement professional in the schools.

The SRO tries to reach goals such as the following:
1- Create and maintain a safe, secure, and orderly learning environment for students.
2 - Establish a trusting channel of communication with students, teachers, and staff.
3 - Serve as a positive role model to students by instilling good moral standards, good judgment, respect, and a sincere concern for the school community.
4 - Teach an awareness of the law so students are more informed and effective citizens.
5 - Empower students with law enforcement efforts and obligations regarding the enforcement of and the consequences for violations of the law.
6 - Lead by example and promote a positive image of law enforcement.

The Fairfield Township Police Department currently has two certified School Resource Officers:
Sergeant Vernon Shobe and Detective Doug Lanier.

You may reach
Sergeant Shobe at 887-4406, ext. 4170. You may reach Detective Lanier at 887-4406, ext. 4253.
