Fairfield Twp. earns better credit score

FAIRFIELD TWP. — Paying off $1 million on its bond for improvements at Princeton and Gilmore roads improved the township’s credit score.

Moody’s Corp. recently re-calibrated governmental bond ratings, which is its credit score. With the township paying down a quarter of its $4 million bond debt, Fifth Third Securities vice president of public finance Andrew Brossart said that helped secure the AA2 rating.

Rove talks immigration before signing memoir

FAIRFIELD TWP. — Former George W. Bush senior White House adviser Karl Rove said Friday, May 21, that he has no issue with Mexican President Felipe Calderon’s recent comments to Congress.

Calderon asked Congress on Thursday to reinstate a ban on assault weapons to reduce gun smuggling and drug gang violence. Calderon also opposed Arizona’s controversial immigration law.

“I didn’t object to him saying it because, look, we insist on the right of the American president to go abroad and speak candid truths to our allies and friends around the world — share our viewpoint and be straightforward,” Rove said before a two-hour book-signing session at Bridgewater Falls’ Books-A-Million for his memoir “Courage and Consequence.”

Safe Holiday Shopping Tips

With the busiest shopping time of the year upon us, the Police Department will be out in full force; and so will the criminals. Thefts from vehicles are frequent, but you need to be alert while shopping and walking to and from your car. The following are some safety tips to help make your shopping experience a safe one.

- Try to shop during the day, and it’s a good practice to have someone else with you.
- When getting in and out of your vehicle, be aware of vehicles near you and parked directly next to you.
- Park in a well lit area when possible.
- Keep your windows rolled up and car doors locked.
- Always keep valuables out of sight and locked in the trunk.
- Keep your cell phone handy and charged.
- Do not leave your shopping cart or purchased items unattended.
- Keep an eye on your purse/wallet at all times. Do not leave them in a cart or unattended at any time, not even on the counter while you pay for purchases.
- Be aware of a person that may be looking over your shoulder while making a transaction with a credit card.
- When leaving the store, make sure you have all your bags as well as your purse and/or wallet.
