Safe Holiday Shopping Tips

With the busiest shopping time of the year upon us, the Police Department will be out in full force; and so will the criminals. Thefts from vehicles are frequent, but you need to be alert while shopping and walking to and from your car. The following are some safety tips to help make your shopping experience a safe one.

- Try to shop during the day, and it’s a good practice to have someone else with you.
- When getting in and out of your vehicle, be aware of vehicles near you and parked directly next to you.
- Park in a well lit area when possible.
- Keep your windows rolled up and car doors locked.
- Always keep valuables out of sight and locked in the trunk.
- Keep your cell phone handy and charged.
- Do not leave your shopping cart or purchased items unattended.
- Keep an eye on your purse/wallet at all times. Do not leave them in a cart or unattended at any time, not even on the counter while you pay for purchases.
- Be aware of a person that may be looking over your shoulder while making a transaction with a credit card.
- When leaving the store, make sure you have all your bags as well as your purse and/or wallet.
